Hi Everyone,
Jennifer here, John’s wife and campaign manager.
I wanted to take a moment today to sincerely thank all who have devoted their time and energy helping to get John elected, and to wish them all a wonderful new year!
Another hectic week, but many new holiday endorsements to report!
The people of the 14th District have told us they’ve been waiting for a candidate like John, someone who can honestly communicate their needs to Washington.
Their passion for the campaign is overwhelming, and humbling.
My husband takes his duty to the voters of the 14th very seriously, and we both thank you all.
The most recent of John’s endorsements came from the United Auto Workers, Region 4, which encompasses nine north central states. As a union carpenter, nothing makes John more proud than being recognized by his union brothers and sisters.
VETPAC, a political action committee supporting candidates who "Preserve the values for which veterans have served, fought and died." endorsed John last week.
As a Navy veteran, John understands what protecting our troops means.
That is why he’s the only candidate in IL-14 ready to vote to de-fund the war, and he understands what this country’s obligation to our fighting men and women means after they come home.
Hopefully, with John in Congress, that will be soon.
IVI-IPO, the Independent Voters of Illinois/Independent Precinct Organizations, a statewide multi-issue, multi-partisan, independent political organization that has been an advocate for honest open government since 1944.
IVI-IPO's stated mission is to achieve "social justice through good government by increasing voter participation and knowledge, by providing a framework for candidate evaluation, and by electing responsive government officials."
John is appreciative of the endorsement, and supports their mission fully.
And last Sunday evening, John and I had the opportunity to visit with Studs Terkel, best-selling author, TV and radio personality, and social historian.
Studs was in rare form,as usual, and officially endorsed John.
We'll have audio of our visit coming soon!
Last week, John had the opportunity on Thursday to visit the Chicago Lighthouse, founded in 1906, and a leading institution in helping those who are blind, visually impaired or multi-disabled.
Chicago Lighthouse Industries has been the leading supplier of wall clocks to the federal and state governments, providing jobs to the blind or visually impaired.
Apparently no institution, regardless of the good they do, is immune from the effects of free trade policies, as John learned a portion of the Lighthouse clock contracts had been outsourced to China.
Another example of why John’s a fair trader.
The Lighthouse also has their own radio station, with volunteers reading everything from the daily newspapers to books for the blind.
John was interviewed for their public affairs show, and you can listen to it here.
So as we look to the February 5th primaries, the March 8th special election, and the November general, John and I want to take this time and reflect on all we have right now.
Our volunteers, our supporters throughout the District, bring an energy to our campaign-an energy that’s rooted in a sincere concern for their neighborhoods, their district and their country; an energy that leads to grassroots action and organizing.
It’s the energy of real Democracy in action.
John and I (and Onyx!) wish you a very happy new year, and thank you all again for the support you’ve given our campaign.
-Jen
